Superboy (also known as Conner Kent and Kon-El) is a genomorph, a binary hybrid clone of Superman and Lex Luthor, and a founding member of the Team.Created—or "born"—on March 21, 2010, Superboy was designed, purposed, and grown by Project Cadmus as a weapon, meant to replace Superman if anything should ever happen to the Man of Steel, or to take him down should Superman ever turn from “the Light” (see: truth, justice, etc.) and become a threat. Superboy was freed from the influence of Cadmus’ mind control and broken out of his captivity by Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Robin. After shaking off the brainwashing, he made his own choice to flee Cadmus and join the others to form The Team.
Though he was taken in by the group of young superheroes, Superboy spent his first year as a member of The Team struggling to adapt to his new life as a person and to come to terms with his hidden aspirations to gain the respect and love of the Man of Steel himself, whom he saw as his father. Subsequent years saw Conner slowly maturing and becoming more comfortable in his new role as both superhero and team member. As he goes on adventures and trials with his new friends and experiences the ups and down of a somewhat “normal life” as a teenager, Superboy begins to grow and learn as person and find out what it means to be both a hero and a friend.
As a hybrid clone, Kon-El possesses amazing abilities and superhuman powers inherited from Superman’s Kryptonian genes, but due to Luthor’s human genes, he will never gain all the powers of his progenitor, Superman, and his existing powers are noticeably inferior. Also, because of a combination of his mixed genetic heritage and the way he was force-grown, Superboy doesn’t visibly age, remaining physically 16 years old no matter how long he lives. Personality wise, Conner is often defiant, rash, and overconfident, but is a strong and loyal friend to his teammates and mentors. Though he starts out as a member of The Team, various events and decisions in his new life see him operate both within and outside of his initial group, including joining up with Nightwing and others as a member of the Outsiders and taking some time to himself begin attending college alongside his duties as a superhero..
